Discover Nebraska weekend – changes to TWO Starting Points

BROWNVILLE: Due to river flooding, the Start Point has been changed to Whiskey Run Creek Winery, at 702 Main Street in Brownville, NE.  The scheduled Game Night has also been canceled.  The walk has been rerouted and will take place within the corporate limits of Brownville.  If you have made reservations to stay on the River Inn Resort, you need to change your plans now.  Email netrailblazers@gmail.com for a list of alternative motels at which to stay.

PAWNEE CITY: Due to extensive road construction, the walk will start at the Pawnee City Historical Site, at 529 “P” Street in Pawnee City.  Park across the street on the grass and walk into the Historical Site to register.  The walk has been rerouted to avoid construction.  SchillingBridge Winery and Microbrewery is still open and instructions on how to get there for tastings or dinner from the Start Point will be available at the registration table.

Any questions should be directed to netrailblazers@gmail.com.

Malvern Art Tour Walk

Our next 5k/10k walk will be on Saturday, September 15th in Malvern, Iowa.  The Start Point will be the Classic Cafe at 315 Main Street. Registration will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.   The walk is self-paced and takes you through town and points along the Southwest Iowa Art Tour, before heading out for a while on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail.  Please return by 1 p.m. The cost is $1.50 for Fun Walkers and $3.00 for those who want to get their books stamped for AVA/IVV credit.

Meetup people: we’re planning on a group walk of the 5k/10k routes starting at 8:30 a.m. The walk is composed of two 5k loops, so walk one or both! Plan on a pace of 3 to 3.5 miles per hour – faster than a stroll, slower than a brisk pace.  The trail is well marked and printed directions are available for those who want to walk either faster or slower than the group.

Here’s one of the sights along the trail – another cafe. Rumor has it that there’s a THIRD food stop along the way!

WHOOPS! Correction to directions to Bird Seeds to Trails Walk

VERY IMPORTANT – Earlier information about construction on Harrison Street was incorrect. Use 168th Street from north or south, or come from the WEST on Harrison, as it is closed between 144th and 156th Streets. 156th Street is closed between Harrison and Giles, too.

Another route available, other than the screenshot shown from Google Maps:  Q Street is a good east-west alternative route and is about a mile north of Harrison.  Drive on Q St to 168th St, then south to Audrey St. just south of Harrison St. (on right).

Welcome to Nebraska’s unofficial 5th season: Road Construction Season.

Harrison St. is closed between 144th and 156th Streets, east of the walk.

May 12th Walk – Bird Seeds to Trails

A reminder that there is road construction that may affect how you will get to Wild Bird Habitat at 16919 Audrey St #120, Omaha, NE 68136.  Harrison Street is closed west of 168th Street.  Come from the north or the south on 168th Street (south of Zorinsky Lake, north of Wehrspann Lake) or come east on Harrison to get there between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.  Walkers must be off the trail by 2 p.m., but don’t worry, the store will be open for you to browse after the walk!

Dogs, kids and strollers are welcome on the walk, although dogs are not allowed in the building.  Fun Walkers pay $1.50; Credit Walkers pay $3.00.

Comments from our Workers’ Walk a couple of weeks ago were very positive and they’re sure you’ll enjoy the route as much as they did.  See you Saturday!

Harrison St. is closed west of 168th St.

May – June 2018 Newsletter

The May-June 2018 newsletter is available here:  NWFT May-June 2018 newsletter   You’ll find club news, photos and a list of upcoming events.

Note for those coming to the Bird Seeds to Trails Workers’ Walk on Saturday, April 28th at 2 p.m. and for the walk itself on Saturday, May 12th from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.: It’s not quite so easy to get there.  The best route suggested from the east is to use Q St. from 144th  Street.  Or use 168th Street north  from Hwy 370 to the start point shopping center. Harrison west from 144th will remain closed all summer – so don’t go that way!
